Planning
the painting: Mentally paint the picture before proceeding - analyse the source picture above - and be aware of the colour mixes you are about to apply to each area, try visualising the result. Will the brush you are about to use carry enough colour - is the mix strong or weak? Try it out on your - trial pad! |

| Sky. Mix very pale washes of Naples Yellow, Light Red, Winsor Blue, apply as wet in wet. Allow to dry. Distant Hills & Trees. For hills mix Ultramarine and Crimson ie. [ML] - while still wet add Misty Green [MG]. Allow to dry. Closer Hills. Weak mix of Raw Sienna, Winsor Yellow and Winsor Blue. [LG] - while still wet add mix of Ultramarine and Burnt Umber - ie. [GB]. Allow to dry. |
Cottage
Roof; & Dry Stone Walls. Medium strength mix - of ref:[GB] with a little [ML] added Cottage Stone Walls. Medium strength mix - of ref:[GB] Trees around cottage. Mix rich greens: Raw Sienna, Winsor Yellow and Winsor Blue, a richer darker [LG] mix - while still wet add rich mix of Raw Sienna and Cerulean Blue. Pale Rocks. Weak mix of Raw Sienna - while still wet add a little [GB] |
Grass. Mix [MG] Grass Below Cottage Wall. Apply Raw Sienna immediately below stone wall - while still wet add [MG] River. Mix a wash of pale Paynes Grey and add [ML] - while still wet introduce your tree colour [LG] in the bottom left hand area. Cottage windows and Shadows. Mix Cerulean Blue with [ML] |
