COLOURS USED

#1 - Naples Yellow
#2 - Winsor Yellow
#3 - French Ultramarine
#4 - Light Red
#5 - Raw Sienna
#6 - Winsor Blue
#7 - Burnt Umber

BASIC COLOUR MIXES

[LG] - Light Green = #2+ #3
[DG] - Dark Green = #5+ #6
[RG] - Rich Green = #2+ #5 + #6
[WB] - Warm Blue = #3+ sm#4
[LB] - Light Brown = #4+ sm#3
[DB] - Dark Brown = #4+ #3

sm refers to the term "small amount"
cw refers to the term "charge with" meaning to introduce a colour into a still wet colour.(Wet-in-wet)

French Farmhouse

SECOND STAGE APPLICATION


Application of washes. This should be quick using as few strokes as possible to cover any area being worked on. A minimal amount of brush-strokes equals greater purity and translucency of colour.	Planning the painting: Mentally paint the picture before proceeding - analyse the source picture above - and be aware of the colour mixes you are about to apply to each area, try visualising the result. Will the brush you are about to use carry enough colour - have you mixed enough colour - is the mix strong or weak? Try it out on your - trial pad!

Trees TopRH. Apply [DG] leaving dry areas of original colour to show - also add small amount of [DB] wet in wet in places. Trees LH. Apply #5 at the top of trees - add [DG] wet in wet - leave appropriate shapes to indicate closer hedgerows. Leave shape of fencing.	Brick/Stone Work. - Technique - Dabble and splash application: Apply medium strength mix of [WB] not forgetting to leave areas of dry paper in various places - apply similar mix of [LB] using the same technique - introduce a small amount of # 7 to the above colours for the out-house brickwork	Vine on the Farmhouse. Apply [RG] sparsely at the top of the vine leaving areas of original colour showing - cw with [DG] at its base - leaving top edge of flowering shrub. Ivy on the out-house. Apply colours as above.
